Chelsea are closing in on a £20 million move for Brazilian starlet Oscar after blowing Tottenham out of the water with their financial offer.

The Blues are in advanced negotiations with the midfielder's club, Internacional, after gazumping a £15m bid made by Spurs last week.

Oscar is regarded as one of the hottest talents in South America and has been identified by Chelsea as a star of the future.

"Spurs simply couldn't and wouldn't compete with the numbers Chelsea are talking - in terms of transfer fee and wages," a source close to the deal told Goal.com.

"Spurs really wanted him and thought their partnership with Internacional would help, but Chelsea are getting a star of the future."

The 20-year has admitted to being aware of Tottenham's interest in recent weeks, but insisted that his focus is solely on helping Internacional, with the Porto Alegre side currently sitting in fifth in Brasileirao.

"Tottenham contacted my agent, but now I'm focusing on Inter," he said. "I don't know what might happen, I'm not thinking of it right now.

"Inter has an important project to win Brasileirao, everybody's focused on that. I want to return to the team and keep playing.
