Redknapp: No Tottenham deal with Barcelona for Bale
The 65-year-old Spurs boss has dismissed suggestions that a deal
which would see the Welsh wing wizard move to Camp Nou over the summer
has already been put in place
Harry Redknapp has rejected claims that a deal between Tottenham and Barcelona has already been established for the transfer of Gareth Bale at the end of the season.
Bale has attracted interest from a number of
Europe's top clubs since bursting onto the scene with a hat-trick
against Inter last season, and the Catalans are believed to be in the
market for a new left-back as they seek a long-term successor for Eric
Abidal.
Redknapp, though, was keen to play down the story which broke in Madrid-based newspaper Marca earlier in the week, which indicated that the two clubs have already agreed a fee.
"I don't know anything about [the story
linking Bale with Barcelona]. I wouldn't think there is the slightest
bit of truth in that," the Spurs manager told reporters.
"Not a chance, I wouldn't have thought."
The
Wales international has previously conceded that it would be difficult
to turn down the attentions of the Liga giants should they come calling
for his services, and Barcelona full-back Daniel Alves has remarked
before that the 22-year-old would be a perfect fit for the side's
dynamic and open style of play.
