Manchester United's empire is not crumbling, insists Evra
Reigning champions are in need of a favour from QPR or their slim
hopes of retaining their title are over, but they'll be back in
contention next year, says their French skipper
Patrice Evra has declared that, while Manchester United look likely to lose their Premier League crown to rivals Manchester City, talk of a demise and a lowering of standards is somewhat premature.
United head into the final day of the season
needing QPR to do them a favour at Eastlands with their cross-city
rivals odds-on favourites to lift the trophy on Sunday afternoon.
Such
a scenario would ensure a trophyless season for the Red Devils, but
Evra believes that it would not the end of the United era - nor does he
feel that manager Sir Alex Ferguson needs to oversee a major summer
overhaul of his squad.
"I know that if we don't win the league then a
lot of people will say this is the end of the empire and ask how we
will survive. But there is a lot of talent at this club," he told
reporters.
"We've had to deal with a lot through injuries and
losing experienced players last summer and it's never easy to find a
solution immediately."
United have one game remaining against Sunderland, needing to better City's result against QPR on Sunday to win the title.
