Roberto Mancini hailed Sergio Aguero for his dramatic
94th-minute goal that clinched the Premier League title for Manchester
City.
“I was so happy that the ball fell to Sergio,” said Mancini. “I think it’s only right that he scored the last goal.”
Aguero’s
late winner ripped the title from the grasp of Manchester United, who
thought they had retained it after winning at Sunderland.
Jubilant
Aguero, son-in-law of Diego Maradona who scored the infamous ‘Hand of
God’ goal against England, hailed the strike – his 30th of the season –
as the most important of his career.“The ball fell at my feet and my only thought was to hit the target,” said Aguero, a £38million signing last summer. “Thankfully it went in. For sure it was the most important goal of my career.
“To score in the last minute to win the title? I’m not sure that is ever going to happen again.”
It was City’s first title win in 44 years and Mancini added: “It’s impossible to single out just one or two players. All of them were magnificent.
“I have never seen a final day like this, never in my career. I don’t think it existed.”
City looked to have thrown the title away when they went 2-1 down to QPR, conceding two second-half goals to trail with 24 minutes to go.
But Edin Dzeko gave City hope with a header in the 92nd-minute, before Aguero clinched the title with his goal.
City only claimed the title on goal difference but Mancini added: “The best team won the title. We played the best football, conceded less goals, scored more goals and beat United two times.
“When you do all that, you deserve to win it.”
