Cristiano Ronaldo: Real Madrid were better than Barcelona this season
The Portugal international was overjoyed to win the Spanish league
title for the first time in his career, and says it is the prize that he
wanted the most
Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his delight with Real Madrid's triumph in La Liga, and feels they are worthy champions as they were superior to arch-rivals Barcelona throughout the 2011-12 campaign.
Los Blancos beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at San
Mames on Wednesday to secure the 32nd league title in the club's
history, and the prolific attacker admitted that he was "delighted" to
add another trophy to his collection.
The former Manchester
United man is vying to be the league's top scorer with Barca forward
Lionel Messi but the Portuguese admitted he would not mind sacrificing
the Pichichi after winning the league.
"I am incredibly
happy. This is my first league title in Spain and I am delighted. We’ve
achieved our objective and we were all very excited about winning La
Liga," Cristiano Ronaldo stated to the club's official website.
"The league is even harder when you fight for it with a team like
Barcelona, but you feel great when you beat one of the best teams
around. We were better than them. We all experience great joy for
achieving our objective after fighting for 10 months.
"The
league title is what I wanted most. I have two Golden Boot awards at
home. It would be nice to win another, but I wouldn’t mind it if I
didn’t."
Madrid last won the La Liga title in 2007-08.
