Leverkusen reject Chelsea offer for Schurrle

The Bundesliga side's CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser has revealed that the Blues were willing to pay in excess of £16 million for the Germany international, but rejected their overtures

Leverkusen director Wolfgang Holzhauser has claimed that the Bundesliga side have turned down an offer from Chelsea for Andre Schurrle.

The Champions League winners already showed an interest in signing the versatile attacker, who can play anywhere in attack, last summer, and were now ready to pay in excess of £16 million (€20m) for the 21-year-old.

"We have received a very concrete offer from Chelsea for Andre Schurrle worth over €20m. Both clubs shoved figures back and forth for a while, but we eventually opted to hold on to Andre," Holzhauser is quoted as saying by Express.

"Andre has too much importance for us on the pitch [to let go of him]. He has also made it very clear that he is happy to stay with us."

Chelsea have already strengthened their attack with arrivals such as Eden Hazard and Marko Marin, but were seemingly keen on adding another forward player to their ranks following speculation that Liverpool are interested in Daniel Sturridge.
