Manchester United players will start pre-season training on Thursday without new signing Shinji Kagawa, whose work permit is currently stuck in the Philippines.

The Japanese midfielder has been granted a work permit but the physical document is currently in Manila, meaning he is unable to train - although the club expect the issue to be resolved within 24 hours.

Kagawa signed for United from Borussia Dortmund last month for £13 million on a four-year contract and is set to feature in the club’s pre-season tours of China and South Africa.

The 23-year-old has been handed the No.26 shirt by the Old Trafford club while Nick Powell, Sir Alex Ferguson’s other new signing, will wear the No.25.
